Veterans Home Care

If you’re a veteran of the Australian defence forces, a war widow or widower, there are services available from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) that can help you remain in your home for as long as possible.

Our Veterans’ Home Care Program (VHC) includes a range of services to help support eligible veterans, war widows and widowers to remain living independently in their own homes for longer. The services we can provide include:

  • Domestic assistance
  • Personal care
  • Safety related home and garden maintenance services might include a range of minor maintenance or repair tasks that could be done by a handyman, such as:
  • Replacing light bulbs and tap washers
  • Installing batteries in smoke/ security alarms
  • Gutter clearing, window or fan cleaning
  • Minor home maintenance (e.g. cupboard door adjustment)
  • Pruning, grass cutting or weeding where a safety hazard exists
  • Clearing of debris following natural disasters or
  • Other tasks agreed between you and your service provider
  • Respite care in your home

To receive these services, Gold or White Repatriation Health Care holders need to receive an assessment. To arrange an assessment for services, telephone a VHC assessment agency on 1300 550 or 133 254 450 from a mobile. Veterans may be eligible for home help services through our Home Support Services or Home Care Packages if they are not eligible for the VHC program.

This service is funded in part by the Australian Government but can require a small contribution and also has to comply with funding guidelines. Please don’t hesitate to contact our friendly staff for pricing and service delivery information.
