International Women’s day
After having been postponed due to Cyclone Alfred, Jaanymili Bawrrungga’s (JB) all inclusive International Women’s Day took on a new date. Held on Tuesday 25thMarch at the Grants Hall, Bowraville the day proved to be a success with a strong gathering and a warm inviting energy.
In the spirit of collaboration and a united approach, JB invited services to contribute and support the day with activities, resources, take aways, food and prizes that would make the day meaningful for all that attended. The event also provided opportunity to offer information on the subject of DFV in a gentle unobtrusive manner.
Services that supported and worked with JB to celebrate and honour women, included Warrina; WDVCAS; Cancer Council; Uniting; Koori Kinnections; Nambucca Valley Council; Miimi; Wesley Mission; Durri; Darrimba Maarra Health Clinic; Bularri Muurlay Nyanggan; Kempsey Families; NSW Government; MNCLHD; Carer Gateway; Carers NSW Australia; and Lifetime Connect.
The event opened with a stunning Fijian dance followed by a Welcome to Country. There were stalls with a host of interactive activities including clothing up for grabs; bush food tasting; toiletries and product give aways; Henna tattooing; weaving; fun activities for the children; an engaging card activity; and a beautiful local female vocalist and guitarist. Food was ample and generous as offered by services and JB’s team also cooked up a storm in the kitchen ensuring no one left without rubbing their full bellies and making a wish 😊
It was a pleasure being a part of this. Thank you JB for taking the lead in this event.
